The old town of Dubrovnik city is indeed a feast for my eyes and camera. Rich in culture and history, with distinctive orange tiled rooftops, there is an ambiance challenging to describe. The town was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Series in 1979.
As you walk the walls of the old town Dubrovnik, what immediately catches the eye are the distinctive red roof tiles. Therefore, these distinctive tiles define the character of the city, Dubrovnik city. As I focus on the lines and form of the unique rooftop, I come to the realization that many of the tiles look relatively new.
Locals then told me of the devastation that the city endured during the ‘Homeland War’ in the early ’90s. With the backing of UNESCO, the city was restored, an estimated 200,000 new tiles rebuilt the homes.
To photograph the incredible rooftops of old town Dubrovnik Croatia, take a long lens and focuse in on the details. You will find many creative compositions. All you need to do is take your time and carefully previsualize and compose the image in-camera.
Also, as always, lighting dictates the mood of your photos. So, use it to your creative advantage as in this image taken just before sunset.
