Woman Looking Out Window Germany

The ‘Woman Looking out Window’ was shot during the Cologne Carnival (Kolner Karneval ) in Germany. This festival is similar to the Mardi Gras in New Orleans. The popular event marks the beginning of Lent, local festivities and the highlight being “the crazy days”, the street carnival, and the monster Rose Monday parade.

During the parade that I was photographing, I noticed this elderly woman gazing at the street parade. She seemed lost in her thoughts. Despite the festivities on the street, she seemed distant and sad, which in turn saddened me. Was she lonely or depressed? All questions that one thinks of when viewing the street photography image from Germany.

Cologne is teh fourth largest city in Germany. It’s a very multi-cultural and open minded city. The main feature is the cathedral which is one of the tallest in Europe. It is quite the climb to get on top, but the view is worthwile. I loved shooting in Cologne and will be posting more images from the trip shortly.
