9/11 Tiles for America

9/11 Tiles for America memorial created by the people and dedicated to the events of 9/11/2001 located in the heart of the Village in New York City. The image was shot hand held during the 2017 Gay Pride weekend in New York City during the evening while walking the village streets with my wife and daughter.

Shooting street photography hand held unleashes a world of creative possibility. This is easy during the day where the light is sufficient to properly expose the image, but during the dusk or evening, getting a good quality image is a challenge without a tripod.

I used the Sony a7R II Alpha Mirrorless Digital Camera with the Sony FE 35mm F1.4 lens. I always shoot auto ISO with the lens was wide open (f1.4) at 1/125th shutter speed – hand held. The incredibly fast Sony F1.4 lens allowed me to shoot the image with a very reasonable 250 ISO.

The gritty cool colours in the image was entirely created in Adobe Lightroom. The screen shots below show the fairly aggressive settings used to create the gritty feel of this image.
